THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE RANGE – A LOW-DOWN ON THE MUST HAVE PRODUCTS

Do you have oily, acne prone skin? If you answered yes, this post is for you. As long as I can remember my skin likes to revolt against me – it breaks out often and it also tends to scar very easily. I also I live in a hot and humid city which just makes the overall situation extra icky. And every time my skin breaks out the only product that has worked well to help clear and calm the acne is tea tree oil and there is one range of tea tree oil that I have used extensively and that is The Body Shop’s tea tree range. This is my 2 cents on how the products from the range work and which one is the best for you.

THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE OIL

The star product and the one that I used for years. No matter which brand of tea tree oil I venture to try out I always go back to the one by The Body Shop – I find that this works best and quickly on my painful breakouts. I have written an extensive review on this oil during my freelance writing days for Peaches and Blush
Here is a quick synopsis of the product – Works quickly to dry out and calm breakouts. If you expect it to work overnight like Salicylic acid I am afraid this doesn’t do that. But at the same time it isn’t as drying like salicylic acid and is more forgiving on the skin. The packaging has both pro and con – it dispenses the right amount of product, but when you are almost at the end of it, it truly is a pain to remove the required quantity. When it comes to fragrance this is something you get accustomed to – initially I found the fragrance a little too strong, but over the years I have gotten used to it.

THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE ANTI-IMPERFECTION DAILY SOLUTION

This was a product I was super excited to try out. There were so many amazing review and almost every review was in praise of this product. I did go into this expecting a lot – for someone like me who has always had skin issues hearing this one product would help get my skin under control sounded amazing but at the same time too good to be true. And my experience with this was the latter. The solution is very light weight and the fragrance is a very mild version of the tea tree oil. The serum sinks into the skin super quickly and hydrated it mildly. It also managed my make my pores not look like craters, but in terms of its effect on breakouts or scarring was rather minimal. It couldn’t do much to calm my breakouts or minimize the scars old breakouts left behind. Overall it failed to work on breakouts and that was a no-no for me. I find that I can get better results by mixing 1-2 drops of the Tea Tree oil with my daily moisturizer.

THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE BLEMISH FADE NIGHT LOTION

Pigmentation is really my enemy. The next product I tried is a night lotion infused with the goodness of both Tea Tree Oil and Tamanu oil which helps heal acne and acne scarring. On days my skin is being greasy this lotion provides the right amount of hydration – so if you have combination to oily skin you wouldn’t need to top up with another moisturizer. This lotion also helps counteract some of the dryness from other products in the range. However, if you have dry skin you better top up with a good moisturizer. In terms of its effects on post-acne blemishes I found that it works better on fresh or newly dried up acne than old scarring. For old scarring it is better to reach for products with Vitamin C. I have a lot of scarring from old acne and the effect was quite subtle. However, this is a nice light weight lotion to use at the end of the day and it has a considerably milder tea tree fragrance.

THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE FACE WASH

A good face wash is the first step to help to keep acne at bay. The Body Shop’s Tea Tree Face Wash is a great deep cleansing face wash. However, it is quite deep cleansing that it strips oil from the skin completely. I would recommend using this only once a day and preferably in summers when the skin generally tends to be greasier. This is way too drying to be used in winters. The face wash in combination with the Tea Tree oil can zap a breakout quickly. However, I would refrain from using any other drying product while using the face wash and always hydrating well with a non-comedogenic moisturizer right after.

THE BODY SHOP TEA TREE SKIN CLEARING TONER

The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner

This is the last product I have used from the Tea Tree range. I have written a detailed review of this toner here. The toner was a hit and miss for me. Blackheads and whiteheads love my skin and this toner really helped keep them at bay, but the alcohol in the toner really made my skin dry that it felt uncomfortable and my skin would overcompensate and become extra greasy. It didn’t do much to help with the post acne scarring either.

While there are many more products from The Body Shop’s Tea Tree range these are the 5 products I have tried and if there is one product is definitely recommend trying out it is the Tea Tree Oil.

  1. I have to agree with your review. I always come back to this brand for their tea tree oil, having tried several others and none of them work as good as this does.
