Your makeup and how you apply it can make a big difference to your overall appearance, which is why some styles are so popular, while others are best avoided. Eyeliner is especially important, when considering makeup, as there are various ways in which it can be applied.
There is nothing more classic than winged eyeliner look or the cat eye look. It is one of the most enduring makeup trends that is riding a wave of popularity at social events, red carpets, and weddings this year. Be it smoky or thin or thick, it is sure to attract attention and give you a glamorous edge.

If you have tried to get this look, but got discouraged as you couldnβt get it right the first time, have some patience. Here is your step-by-step guide on how to apply winged eyeliner:
- Use pencil eyeliner to trace a thin line close to the upper lash line. Ensure that the line is thin, as it just needs to act as the base for the winged eyeliner. In case, the line isnβt neat, donβt worry. For a thicker wing, retrace the steps a number of times.
- Decide how far out the wing should go. It is best to stop the wing where the crease ends. Hold the pencil carefully at the end of the bottom lash line and point it upward diagonally to make it look continuous with the lower lash line.
- In case, you have hooded eyelids, angle the wing outward instead of upward to avoid the hooded part of the eyelid.
- Draw a diagonal line that will act as the wing. Match the line roughly with the guideline visualized by you when you hold the liner pencil against the eyelid. For a subtle winged eyeliner look opt for a short line, but for the dramatic winged eyeliner look, extend it up to the brow bone.
Tip: Never extend the line all the way to the eyebrow.
- Make a neat and straight line from the tip to the middle of the eyelid. Draw the straight line from the tip of the wing to the middle of the upper lash line. To keep it taut put the finger of your non-dominant hand on the brow bone.
- Use the eyeliner pencil to neatly fill the winged outline that has been created. Ensure that the skin is covered well and the eyeliner is close to the eyelashes to avoid gaps of skin. For the perfect look, blend your eyelashes to the eyeliner.
- To make it appear as if the wing is becoming thinner while it goes in the eye, use only short strokes of the eyeliner pencil to smooth the corners between the end of the wing and the line on the upper lash lines.
To get the finishing touches right, take a step back from the mirror to get a better view of the final look. Compare how the eyes look in relation to one another. For the perfect look, the wings should be fairly even. Once you are sure that the symmetry is as close to perfect as is possible, trace the pencil liner with the liquid liner. Last but not the least; clean the uneven edges by using the concealer.
This winged eyeliner tutorial will surely help you master this fashion trend in no time. Once you are comfortable with it, try the double winged eyeliner. Both, the winged eyeliner as well as the double winged eyeliner is perfect for this wedding season! Be it for the bride or the guest.
