I have oily skin and I tend to prefer products, which help zap the excess oil. I love using The Body Shop Tea Tree Toner. But with the days getting colder I needed something gentler for my skin. I have used TBS Seaweed face wash and I loved how gentle it was. So I picked up The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Toner to help remove excess oil without drying out my skin.
The product claims to “This alcohol-free, refreshing and purifying toner helps to rebalance combination skin.
- Removes traces of cleanser, make-up and impurities
- Purifies
- Refreshes
- Prepares skin for moisturizer.”

My Experience with The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Toner
This isn’t my first bottle of The Body Shop Seaweed Clarifying Toner, and the rates have been constantly increasing. But despite the hike in price I continue to buy this toner now and then as it is gentle on my sensitive skin and works well against the oil slick floating on my face. I use this similar to any other toner – cleanse the face and then use the toner.
A lot of toners targeted at oily skin tend to have alcohol, as alcohol helps to remove the oil. But at the same time they can a little harsh on the skin. The Seaweed toner is alcohol free, yet it manages to remove oil and leave the skin matt. The toner has a mild refreshing fragrance and is a pleasure to use. It purifies the skin removing dirt and any left over makeup. While it does some amazing wonders, the toner seems to have little to no effect on my rather large pores. The ingredients list also contain some words we wouldn’t want to see in skin care products. Even still this is one of the best toners I have tried and if you have a combination to oily skin you will love using this.
The Good
- Keeps skin oil free without over drying it
- Lightweight toner with a mattifying effect
- Removes dirt and left over makeup effectively
- Does not sting or burn
- Skin feels refreshed after every use
- Has a mild fragrance
- Gentle on the skin
- Alcohol free
The Bad
- Some may find it expensive
- Contains parabens and loads of other chemicals
- Does not have much effect on pores
Overall verdict: 4 / 5
Price: Rs. 895/- for 200ml

Thanks Aditi. If you have combination or sensitive skin do give the Seaweed range a try. It works amazingly.
Doesn’t sting or burn is an important quality I look in a toner, but still parabens is such a no plus the expensive side. I guess plum goodness toner is very affordable then plus free of chemicals.

I haven’t tried plum products. But I have heard great things about it. Would definitely try out their toner and see how it works.
Nice Review! I somehow stay away from anything that has the word “Sea” in it, because I think it will smell like fish… LOL!
My Recent Post: December Empties 2015
Trust me it doesn’t smell anything like that. I would run miles away if it did 😀
Great!
My Recent Post: Rouge Dior Baume 660 Coquette Review
I have used it earlier and I now think how many chemicals was I putting on plus the fragrance was super artificial to me. Great review!
It does have a load of chemicals. But the fragrance seemed okay to me.
Most of the TBS products have silicones and sulfates. Nice review. I am curious to know what are those ingredients that we would not want to see in out skin care products
Shampita @ TheRainbowlady recently posted Plum Goodness Green Tea Clear Face Mask Review
The best would be to resort to homemade all natural products. But then again we do get lazy and try to resort to quick fix and quick results. Most of the products we use and not just skin care are loaded with parabens and sulphates. But there are alternates but not as easily available.
U r a true blue body shop fan I must say. the quantity is quite good to last long.

I use their Tea Tree toners in summers. The days are still a little dry so I opted for something that doesn’t completely zap the oil.
Bit expensive but it is TBS and it offers so many benefits !!! Fantastic review as always 🙂

Do check my latest review on Just Herbs Elixir : http://www.raginidhiman.com/justherbs/
Thank you Ragini for stopping by. And I agree some of their products are totally worth it.
Seaweed seems like an exotic ingredient but parabens are too bad for a toner!
I wish it came without Parabens too. But they seem to be almost everywhere 🙁
Seems like a great products, TBS 90% times have great products that live up to their expectations.
But recently I am trying my best to avoid paraben products.
