What does my hair hate the most – it’s dandruff. These pesky little things clog your pores. Cause hair fall. They make your scalp itchy. Basically, they are a nuisance on your crown and they keep finding ways to come back and pester you. I doubt if there is actually a one-time solution to get rid of dandruff forever, but till then I have my arsenal of shampoos to my rescue. One of the products my husband and I tried last year was the Dove Dandruff Care Shampoo. Read more to find out if it helped rid of the white flakes.
The product claims to “At Dove we are dedicated to providing superior care solutions for hair experiencing dryness and damage. That is why we have developed specifically tailored ranges – Damage solution to repair damaged hair and nutritive solutions to make dry hair feel nourished. This shampoo contains ZPTO which is clinically proven to act on the origin of dandruff from the first wash and micro moisture serums helps to restore hair surface leaving hair soft and smooth.”
My Experience with Dove Dandruff Care Shampoo
Over the years I have used many anti-dandruff shampoos with my favourite one so far being The Body Shop Ginger Anti Dandruff Shampoo. As much as I love the shampoo it dries my hair like it’s nobodies business – I have found the same to be true with other anti-dandruff shampoos as well. When I came across the Dove Dandruff Care Shampoo it claimed that it could get rid of dandruff without drying your tresses – I was super excited to read this and I couldn’t wait to try it out. Both my husband and I were suffering from mild dandruff and it seemed like the perfect time to put the product to test.
A little bit about our hair.
My hair: Oily scalp but dry lifeless hair.
My husband’s hair: Dry as the Sahara desert.
Any shampoo that I try out goes through the no conditioner test and one that claims to not dry out hair definitely wasn’t going to get exempted from this rule. Immediately after washing I could feel my hair clean, dandruff seemed to have temporarily vanished and my hair had a refreshing fragrance. But once my hair was dry it looked super frizzy, parched and the driest it had been. I was super disappointed with this. But I didn’t give up and the next few times I used the shampoo with different conditioners and with pre-oiling my hair. But the same dry situation prevailed and the only thing that could help my hair was pre-oiling and using a deep conditioning mask. It just didn’t seem practical to use a deep conditioning mask every time I used this shampoo. I also noticed that my dandruff never really went away and my scalp was also extra itchy because it was extra dry.
I wondered if only I faced this issue and asked my husband how his experience was – sadly his was the same. His remarks were “This shampoo is bad and it has done nothing to get rid of my dandruff”. He is also someone who doesn’t use conditioner regularly so his hair looked far worse than mine. In the end, I could only conclude that while this shampoo cleanses hair well, it dries it way too much and doesn’t do much to get rid of your dandruff.
