There are many skin care myths that prop up every now and then, leaving us confused as to how to take care of our skin. But there are also some timeless beauty tips for face and other areas one should follow to avoid any problems related to all kinds of skin.
1. Tanning is safe
There are months in a year when we all love to sport the tanned look. But little do we know that the ultraviolet rays of the sun penetrate deep into the skin and cause permanent damage. The ultraviolet A and B rays cause premature aging and skin damage apart from skin diseases including cancer. It is highly recommended by dermatologists to always apply a good SPF sunblock whenever stepping out in the sun. Always apply a good natural face pack to soothe the skin, once you come back from the sun.

(2) Fruit pack
- ½ tsp pulp of papaya
- ½ tsp pulp of an apple
- ½ tsp watermelon juice
- 1 tsp honey
- 3-4 drops lemon juice
- Mix all the ingredients together in a bowl
- Apply the mix on the face and let it dry for 15-20 minutes
- Wash it off the face with cold water
- Repeat once a week for brighter & glowing skin
(2) Higher SPF leads to great sun care
Thanks to advertisements, it is highly believed that higher the SPF the better the sunblock is. But this is far from the truth. The SPF on a sunscreen only refers to the amount of protection it provides from the harmful ultraviolet A, B and C rays. It does not shield us completely. A sunscreen lotion or cream consists of Mexoryl, oxybenzone, or avobenzone that helps in complete burning or pigmentation of skin to an extent. There are many home remedies for glowing skin one can follow using natural herbal ingredients that help in de-tanning as well.
(3) Applying soap on the face is enough
It is also a common myth that if you apply just soap on the face, it is enough to retain the glow and radiance on the face. The truth is that no amount of just soap can give soft and smoothness to the skin.
It is very important to follow a daily skin care regime that includes scrubbing, cleansing, and toning that helps to make the skin healthy and free of acne and pimples.
(4) Facials are good for skin
It is highly recommended by beauty experts that frequent facials are good for the skin. But the truth is far away from this reality. What they don’t tell you about are the long-term harmful effects these facials can have on your skin. They might help remove dirt and grime from the face but if you are thinking they would help you get rid of wrinkles or pimples, then probably you are in the wrong. Indulging in frequent facials robs your skin of its natural pH balance and glow. One should instead opt for therapies that include the use of natural ingredients for long-term benefits & radiant skin.
(5) Expensive skin care products work wonders
It is also a common belief that expensive skin care products are good for skin and can work wonders. But it is far from the truth as many studies have found that expensive products like anti-aging creams and gels only cost that much because of the big brands associated with them. It is always better to use natural products like gram flour (besan), curd, oats mixed with lemon juice to conduct a daily skin care ritual.
(6)Anti-aging creams wipe off wrinkles
Another advertising gimmick that fools all of us, forcing us to spend thousands on expensive anti-aging creams, that finally does not do what it promises.
Anti-aging creams actually hydrate and moisturize the skin cells, keeping the skin soft and supple and make it look tight temporarily. Packed with retinol or tretinoin, the anti-aging creams penetrate the skin and increase its turnover for a short time. Even though they are good for fairness tips and anti-oxidants, no known long-term effects are documented.
