Summer is my most favorite season, and yet it can get incredibly hot! Yes, water coolers, air conditioners etc. help you beat the heat. But today, I want to share with you these simple and easy-to-do exercises that will help you keep calm and cool in summers.
Yes, you heard it right, these exercises won’t warm you up, they’ll help you stay cool, literally!
So let’s get right into it.
3 Exercises To Help You Keep Cool In Summers
TONGUE FOLDING EXERCISE
Prepare yourself:
- Sit in a comfortable cross-legged position
OR
- If you are already familiar with the practice of Yoga and have been practicing it for some time then, you may sit in Vajrasana
- Take 2-3 deep breaths through your nose to prepare yourself
Steps:
- Bring your tongue out
- Curl the sides of your tongue to make a tube like shape. (If you are unable to roll your tongue then just form an ‘O’ with your mouth
- Inhale from the tube of your tongue (or your mouth if you can’t curl the sides of your tongue)
- Exhale through your nostrils
- Repeat 5 times
Benefits of Performing This Exercise:
- It helps lower your body temperature
- Reduces stress
- Cools the body and mind
- Improves digestion
- Lowers blood pressure
Precautions:
- It is best performed during early hours of the day or immediately after waking up
- People with Low Blood Pressure problems are advised not to perform this exercise
- People who have Asthma should not perform this exercise
- While practicing this exercise, if you feel dizzy then discontinue
TEETH BREATHING EXERCISE
Prepare yourself:
- With a calm and focused mind, sit in a comfortable cross-legged position
OR
- If you are familiar with the practice of Yoga and have been practicing it then you may want to sit in Vajrasana
Steps:
- Clench your teeth together but lightly
- Take a deep and long breath through your teeth
- Close your lips
- Exhale through your nose
- Repeat 5 times
Benefits:
- Lowers down the body temperature
- Beneficial for mouth/throat/tongue related diseases
- Controls pyorrhea
- Controls premature hair graying
- Improves digestion
Precautions:
- If you have cold and/or cough please do not practice this exercise as it may aggravate your problem
- People with Asthma, tonsillitis and/or other respiratory problems are advised not to perform this exercise
- This exercise lower blood pressure, so those with low blood pressure problems should not perform this exercise
THE CORPSE POSE
Also known as Shavasana, is a great practice during summers. After a long day at work, college, studies, or anything that has managed to drag down your energy and spirits, shavasana will help you relax, calm your nerves and your mind.
Prepare yourself:
- Find a flat surface to lay on, if your bed has a firm mattress then it’s okay to perform this exercise on your bed. But it’s highly recommended that you lay down on the floor, with a yoga mat. Yoga mat’s are not at all expensive and can easily be purchased any shopping portals like Amazon.in
- Lay down on your back
- Take 2-3 deep breaths and close your eyes
Steps:
- While laying down on your back, make sure that your shoulders are relaxed and your eyes are closed
- Your palms should be facing up
- Keep your feet apart from each other
- Close your eyes
- Concentrate on breathing in and out slowly
Benefits:
- Lowers blood pressure
- Improves concentration
- Improves memory
- Reduces stress
- Helps you overcome fatigue
- Relaxes the body and the mind
Precautions:
- Make sure you don’t actually fall asleep during this exercise
- Keep your spine straight
- Don’t wear tight-fit clothes
So, I hope you all like these simple and easy-to-do exercise, that require no prior experience of practicing Yoga. While I would recommend you do these daily during summer mornings, You may practice these whenever you are feeling too hot.
