The monsoons can be beautiful & romantic. They are known to bring alive the greens and drive away the blues but it is a dreadful time for your hair. Due to the rising humidity levels in the air, any rain water left on your scalp can make it itchy and may even lead to dandruff, bacterial or fungal infections. Hair care in monsoon is absolutely essential to protect against hair damage & hair fall in rainy season. A quick and convenient solution to overcome these problems is to get the right hair-care regime. This will help you maintain a healthy scalp.

Here are some tips for hair care in rainy season that you can use to keep your hair healthy:
-
Shampoo at least twice a week
Hair will inevitably get frizzy and if you have under nourished hair, using a good shampoo goes a long way in nourishing your tresses and preventing fungal or bacterial infections during monsoon. Always shampoo from root to tip. Use a mild yet deep cleansing shampoo to remove any residue on your scalp left behind by rain water.
-
Stay Dry
The urge to go out & get wet in the rain is quite understandable but rain water is dirty and acidic, which is really bad for your hair.
-
Champi
A good old hair oil massage is the best hair care in monsoon season. It naturally boosts the moisture in your hair which revitalizes dry strands. It also offers deep conditioning. Avoid using too much though else you’ll find yourself over-shampooing just to get it out, which will damage your hair.
Champi is essential as it will also strengthen your hair and hence prevent hair fall, which is a major concern during monsoons. Check out these 5 must know tips to avoid hair fall in rainy season at Reward Me.
-
Comb Care
The best option during the rains is a wide tooth comb. Not only does it help in detangling your tresses but it also serves as a good conditioning comb.
-
Don’t Tie
Tying up your hair in the monsoon invites rain water to stay in your hair for long periods, which makes it turn frizzy & limp. If you need to tie your hair then stick to loose ponytails and buns only.
-
Conditioner to the rescue
Simply using conditioner isn’t enough. The key is to condition your hair the right way. Avoid using too much conditioner and apply conditioner only to the ends and lengths of your hair.
-
Snip! Snip!
If you’ve ever wanted to cut your hair short but couldn’t muster up the courage, this is the ideal time. By cutting your hair short you’re reducing the hassle of maintaining it.
-
Waterproof is good
Invest some money in a good quality waterproof jacket or hoodie. This is one of the best ways to protect your hair in the rains by keeping it dry.
-
Eat right
Strengthen your hair follicles by eating foods that are rich in protein, iron and omega 3 fatty acids like mackerel, salmon, walnuts, spinach and yoghurt.
-
Explore natural alternatives
By using home remedies for hair care, you will minimize the risk of any irritation or reactions caused by chemicals in synthesized products. There are plenty of shampoos and conditioners you can whip up by using things lying around in your kitchen.

Try changing your diet to include a lot of proteins and also use gentle hair care products. If this seems to have little effect I suggest seeing a doctor without much delay.

Thanks for sharing these great tips. I usually have a dandruff problem in winter. For me i think it is due to my dry skin. For dandruff i give my hair a hot oil treatment. I use virgin olive oil and coconut oil to give my hair a hot oil treatment.
I love using oils for my hair. I find that are very nourishing and add amazing shine to the hair.
Thanks for sharing such useful tips! Probably we can shun down the hair styling products this season and go for natural alternatives like you mentioned. Hot oil treatment is the best bet this season 🙂
